How to experience it
Allow time to understand the setting, not just take a photograph. A local guide can add context, help select the most relevant stops and adapt the experience to your interests and walking comfort.

THE STORY
Thar Desert: a closer look
The Thar Desert offers an inhabited cultural landscape as well as sand and open horizons. Towns, villages, craft and food give a desert journey its depth. Activities should be chosen with responsible local providers and suitable comfort arrangements.
Craft markets, textiles, music and regional food are central to the experience. Heritage accommodation can add atmosphere, but it should be selected to match comfort preferences and location rather than appearance alone.
Before you visit
Opening hours, access, tickets, photography rules and advance arrangements should be checked for your travel dates. Share any mobility or dietary requirements when requesting a programme.
