THE STORY

Ross Island: a closer look

Ross Island, now known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island, preserves remains of a former colonial administrative settlement near Port Blair. The changing relationship between buildings and vegetation gives it a distinctive atmosphere. Access depends on current transfer arrangements.

An island journey should leave room for transfers and weather changes. Respect marine habitats and select authorised activity providers. Cultural and ecological sensitivities mean not every island is a visitor destination.

How to experience it

Allow time to understand the setting, not just take a photograph. A local guide can add context, help select the most relevant stops and adapt the experience to your interests and walking comfort.

Before you visit

Opening hours, access, tickets, photography rules and advance arrangements should be checked for your travel dates. Share any mobility or dietary requirements when requesting a programme.
