Old Delhi: a closer look
Old Delhi preserves the living commercial and religious setting of Shahjahanabad. Bazaars, food lanes and Mughal monuments form a dense urban experience best explored on foot with local context.
Delhi brings together the remains of successive capitals, the Mughal city of Shahjahanabad and the planned avenues of New Delhi. The Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar show different chapters of this history. India Gate adds a more recent memorial landscape. These are not isolated monuments: neighbourhoods, markets and places of worship still give them a living setting.
