THE STORY

Mehrauli: a closer look

Mehrauli brings together layers of Delhi’s early and later history in an archaeological landscape. A guided walk helps connect dispersed structures and their changing historical settings.

Delhi brings together the remains of successive capitals, the Mughal city of Shahjahanabad and the planned avenues of New Delhi. The Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar show different chapters of this history. India Gate adds a more recent memorial landscape. These are not isolated monuments: neighbourhoods, markets and places of worship still give them a living setting.

How to experience it

Allow time to understand the setting, not just take a photograph. A local guide can add context, help select the most relevant stops and adapt the experience to your interests and walking comfort.

Before you visit
